Structural Behaviour of Aluminium–Timber Composite Beams with Partial Shear Connections

In this paper, the short-term behaviour of innovative aluminium–timber composite beams was investigated. Laminated veneer lumber panels were attached to aluminium with screws. Recently conducted theoretical, experimental, and numerical investigations have focused on almost full shear connections. However, no experiments partial connections yet been conducted. For reason, action in different screw spacing studied paper. Four-point bending tests performed study their structural (ultimate load, mode failure, load versus deflection response, slip stiffness). The method used for steel–concrete connection adopted estimate bearing capacity investigated beams. resistance sagging from theoretical analyses differed by 6–16% laboratory tests. addition, four 2D models developed. One model reflected beam connection. remaining represented verified against test results. modelled as an orthotropic material its failure captured using Hashin damage model. only 3–6% lower than one experiments.
